Social Researcher Brene Brown's life work uncovers the power of vulnerability, which is underpinned by her initial research interest in the emotion of shame. Shame is the driving emotion behind workplace bullying behaviour. Vulnerability is the opposite of shame, the antidote. A systems lens helps us to understand that for a person engaging in workplace bully, the need for power and control underpinned by the emotion of shame, is the the drivers to 'closing systems'. Embracing vulnerability is how organisations can build safe organisations where closed systems cannot occur, and therefore the condition of fear required for workplace bullying behaviour to thrive, is not present.
